So the truck was sitting a little to one side, and had some odd handling. I noticed the spring difference after my first run. The rear springs are quite a bit longer than the front, so one side was being pushed down with quite a bit of force.
Once that was resolved it became a decent basher and handled well. I bought a Traxxas Gravedigger (Stampede) at the same time. I have to say I enjoy the DT more, especially with the somewhat scale appearance.
I recently upgraded the ESC and motor with a Velineon VXL-3s combo. I also upgrade to ball bearings, replacing all the brass bushings. I installed a steel idler gear and the Duratrax CVDs. I ran it for the first time since the upgrades, just the other night. At one point, from a stand still, I drove under hard acceleration about 12' and swung the rear end around. It caught a half centimeter lip in the alley way, and flipped onto its back. I saw my shiny CVD going flying off of the left side. It didn’t seem like a hard crash at all. But it snapped the CVD clean off near the wheel. It also pulled the rear camber linkage rod and ball stud with the supporting chuck of plastic out of the rear support tower. I couldn’t find the drive cup spring that puts pressure on the dogbone end of the CVD. ?
Up until that point, I was really happy with the truck. I am going to call Duratrax and see if the support tower is covered under warranty. They should at the very least replace the broken CVD which was new. I will post some pictures tomorrow of the carnage. I honestly didn’t think I put all that much power into the truck. I kept the gearing a little lower. However that being said, I did have a lot of fun with it stock and am even thinking of buying the beetle variant.
