How many amps does my lipo battery need to put out???

How do you figure out how many amps your lipo battery needs to satisfy the esc/motor combo? Last year when I had my ProBoat Shockwave 26 Brushless out I noticed that after I drained a battery at pretty much full throttle the whole time the battery was quite warm. That boat has a 30 amp ESC (capable of 2S) and a 2900kv motor and I was running a Sky Lipo 2S 4000mAh 40/80C battery. And Horizon sent me the new Shockwave 26 V3 Brushless (because of a flaw with the first one) and it has a 45 amp ESC (capable of 3S) and a 1500kv motor. And I plan on running 3S, just need to know which rating to go with.

I don't smoke, don't drink, don't do drugs, I only have one small problem, I lie.

look at your motor specs. typical motor ratings should give as a minimum, the maximum voltage you can use, and the maximum current draw of the motor. Power = Voltage x Current. IMO the ESC should safely be able to supply the maximum current draw of the motor x1.5 for safety.

my guess without researching that motor is its max power should be about 500w. so at 12.6V you would be looking at roughly 40amps draw which should be inside the safe limits for the ESC (assuming the motor rating is 500W or less). for me I would like the ESC to be maybe up around the 60amp mark.

Battery would need to be a minimum of 3S 2000mah 25C.

    hope this helps.
