Well It Came... USB 8-Channel Controller

This morning my Elcheapo 8 channel controller...

This morning my Elcheapo 8 channel controller arrived..

All I can say is 8 channels is too much for a rookie.
I have a Windows 7 64bit machine and the Simulator software, FMS is TERRIBLE..
The graphics resemble something from an Atari 2600.... Its AWEFUL.
It cannot Recognise USB inputs, so you have to configure it for a Joystick port which then results in it uploading a microsoft 5 axis Joystick driver which is dodgey to say the least..
There is no throttle or animation for the Helicopter blades so the motors are always on.... which makes flying the damned things incredible tedious..

Then spend the next 4 hours configuring it just to fly as it doesn't detect that it is a Mode 2 transmitter so all the controls have to be configured..
Upside....

The CD also contained the BMI Flight sim... Now this is MORE like it.
The BMI Flight sim detected the Controller as USB.. and in a matter of minutes I had a Cub up in the air..

The graphics are a LEAP forward from the FMS.

It also comes with a Demo of Clear View Simulator so I am going to give it a go too
Now I am still a rookie but BMI has been the most helpful in getting me to understand how planes fly... Good thing its a simulator as I crash more often then fly... and if I do land it... its a Fluke !

Hey guys i thought about getting my first rc...

Hey guys i thought about getting my first rc plane.

I was told to get a glider as my first and make sure to have the propellers behind the nose of the plane so i dont bugger it when i crash :)

So i had a look online for a plane and found this: eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d?r

The only problem it the battery is extremely small.

I have a Gens Ace 2s Lipo from my cars and was wondering will it be able to fit in this plane? Or will it be too heavy?

Also do you have any recommendations for a first plane?

Until now I've been alternating between a tiny screen mounted on my transmitter, and my laptop screen. Both suffer too much from glare so this should vastly improve the experience.

Now I've just got to finish redesigning (yet again!) my camera mount for my F550.

Hey guys,

I need a plane radio for a few projects. It needs to be easily programable, and I can still use it in the future when I get better.
Preferably I would like there to be at least 8 channels. I don't really want to spend more than $200. What do you guys think I should get?

Thanks,

Fixing up some old Timers...maybe

Well, I seem to have gotten myself mixed up in a...

Well, I seem to have gotten myself mixed up in a rebuild project I guess. My buddy ran across a handful of planes that his dad had laying around (some for 30 years or so), and decided he wanted to fix them up and fly them, and asked if I could help him out. Of course, not realizing what needed to be done with these planes because I hadn't seen them yet, I jumped at the chance to play around with some old planes. Then I got the photos.

Well, not being a plane guy, and being extremely new to RC, I am unsure where to start with any of these planes, and I guess there are more that are in rougher shape.

None of them have any motors, servos, or any electronics, but I am thinking we need to do some body work and prep work before we grab any of that. I am also thinking that we should grab up a trainer plane and flight sim before we go too far just to have something to fly while we wait to fix these things up.

I was thinking a hobby zone champ for a good starter plane that we wouldn't mind crashing up a few times.

Any thoughts or advice or even a smack in the head to say we are wasting our money and time would be greatly appreciated.
