Got my 55T put into my crawler last night. I also cut the original cage of my Wraith to fit mt new body. I had bought some aluminum to build a new chassis, and when I got that all cut out it ended up being alot heavier than I originally planned. So I put that on the back burner for the time being, and opted to hack up this cage. It was hacked up already, so I'm not too worried about it. Going to find a way to mount the body today, so I'll DEFINITELY be trail ready next weekend.
The 55T I installed has really blown my mind. I took the chassis outside this morning at 8am to test it out. I was afraid that if the mesh wasn't set properly that I'd strip the spur gear, but it's dead on! But the thing that has blown me away is the capability that this rig has now. I started her out on rocks....just simple, rip-rap style rocks in a ditch behind my place. No problems, so I headed to a set of 14 inch or better diameter logs that were recently cut down, and were laying perfectly perpindicular to each other. Thinking there was NO WAY it would ever get up and over these, I came in at a 45* angle of them, and eased on the throttle. The nose went up, and I was sure the rig was gonna roll over on it's back, but it didn't. It hooked the top of the logs, and started up, never spinning the wheels at all. It crested, went down the other side, and kept going. I was floored. When this body is mounted and ready to go, this will be one bada$$ rock rig. I am soooo happy with this 55T. I'm figuring that these logs it crawled were at LEAST a 75-80 degree angle....they had to be. And it NEVER started any wheelespin, or had a lack of power.
And this was on my Slash lipo battery too....first time I've run lipo through my Wraith. The run time was awesome. I'm definitely hooked. And I can NOT wait to get the body mounted and hit the trail against all my buddies with their SCX10's Mind you I love the SCX10, and look forward to that platform being my next rig after my wallet recovers from buying the Slash I bought recently, but I am forever getting 'picked on' about the ole' Wraith...lol....It's all in fun I know, but they kid me about not being able to get through some areas that the more narrow SCX10 can get through with ease, and that the old 20T that was in it produced way too much wheelspin and was the major reason it spent so much time on its lid.
They'll never know what hit 'em next weekend. None of them come to this forum although I've tried relentlessly to get them to join....so they're kinda in the dark about my motor swap. Sure, they knew the stocker was toast, but I 'kinda' told a lil white lie by saying i was going to ONLY go to 27T...hahaha..
I didn't have my camera this morning. I'll try to get some vid of another test run this afternoon.
Have a GREAT Sunday everybody-
>Billy

The body is on there, but no body clips. I'm trying something different. Still undecided about adding the stacks now.
I got alot of video this afternoon. Going to try and edit it all together and get it posted. PLEASE let me know what you think...Hoping to have the new aluminum chassis thing worked out pretty soon.

i am just getting into to rock crawling hobby i dont have much money to spend on a rig due to most of my money goes into my 10th scale 2WD slash with rustler LCG conversion. but anyway what i was wondering... is the redcat RS10 a decent starter crawler? i am not really looking to do any big competing and i am pretty handy at fixing things and soldering and such. so the only issue i have seen is that when turning to sharply the tires catch the feeds to the motors(not a big deal to me due to i can fix that... well maybe) lol. anyway ANY help or ideas on this rig would be VERY greatly appreciated. by the way have just started watching RC Adventures and i must say AMAZING i only wish i lived closer to you guys so i could come watch and maybe join some of the RC events.

Went body shopping today.

Went body shopping today.

The Wraith is a really sweet rig until you try to swap the body out for something else. Nothing seem to fit. NOTHING....I took the rig to the LHS to actually see what would and wouldn't fit in person.
Then I saw this and I was in 'love'...lol

It fit!! I was shocked! The wheel wells were damn near perfect, so I took it to the house.
This is what she's gonna end up as. (Sorry the Wraith body is still on it in the pics, but you get the idea)

I think this is gonna look MEAN! I mean, look at those Iroks!...She's gonna be bada$$!!!

Paint?
2 tone.
Lower half of the body is going to be gloss black. Upper half is going to be "Fiery orange", with a thin silver line between the 2 colors....kind of like a tribute to Harley Davidson. (if I can manage to get it right)
In the pic you'll see a stainless steel tube. (courtesy of work, but don't rat me out!) This is going to be cut for stacks in the bed.
Then just the headlight decals and such. Nothing major there.
I'm going to start working on it tomorrow night. It's been a really long day and I'm beat!
Let me know what you think! I'm personally stoked!
Later guys!

Set out for a trail run with my buddies today....

Set out for a trail run with my buddies today. Went to the spot, and I was alone..lol.
Oh well, I ran the Wraith...did some crawling on some nice rocky terrain, crawled a loooooooong set of steps like a dozen times, trails, dirt, etc.
She got a little slower, and slower, and slooooooower, until it stopped, and started smoking.
Picked it up, and it was the motor. The ESC and RX are good, but the stock 20T bit the bullet today.
I was actually happy. Not happy that my rig could've burnt up right there, but happy that the 20T said "See Ya!".....Now, I 'have' to replace it with a good crawl motor.
So I get it home and start thinking, "you kno, this body is decent, but I sure would like a regular truck body of some kind but I don't wanna hack up the frame"...well, there I go, on Tower's site hunting bodies.
Being the impatient SOB that I am, Tower's delivery time just will NOT suffice!..lol
I'm gonna take the rig down to my LHS tomorrow and check out some bodies to go over the stock/modded body that's on it now.
Only problem is the wheelbase. I like the WB that my rig has now, and trying to match a body that 'fits' and looks right seems like it may be a problem. I really don't want to shorten the links. I think that's part of the reason it stays planted on the rocks. But I may have to.
So, any ideas on bodies, guys? Anybody tackled this before?
As far as motor goes, it'll probably be a 45T. I'm hoping I can find some steel gears for the tranny while I have it apart too.
I'll do my best to keep y'all posted.

I would Appreciate any help any of you can shed on steering options and bodiless chassis.
Oh. And I run it all with an old spectrum DX6i Stick radio that I have done the left stick centering mod on and I use the mixing to switch what sticks run each ESC.
The crawler is run by a Hyperion 3s 25c lipo.

Hey everyone. I haven't had alot of time to get...

Hey everyone. I haven't had alot of time to get online lately with work being as busy as it has been, but i wanted to drop by and post some pics and info on my Wraith rebuild.
The truck had been giving me alot of trouble; Glitches, no reverse, runaways, etc.
Well I took the whole thing apart yesterday (Saturday) and went completely through from end to end, top to bottom.
I had relocated the electronics to the rear, and the battery to the front. I finally got the time to straighten out the wiring and make it all neat. It's now completely outfitted with "Deans" connectors and NOT those ragged "Tamiyas". Then I shot some, let's call it "cleaner" into the motor can to clean it out a little more. The drive line got a much needed shot of lube on all the joints, rod ends, and drive shafts. The top was swapped for the original, but it was cut to fit since the roll cage has been cut off past the seats. Finally, I made a 'custom' tonneau cover to hide the electronics and relocated the on/off switch.
With that being said, I give you my Wraith, "v2.0"

I forgot to mention that I cut the right and left outer bars off of the front bumper.
No real reason really, I just wanted it to be a little different.
The rig is running GREAT now. I tested everything yesterday and I was really happy with the outcome. We're actually going out for a trail ride today at a lake here in town. I have no idea how many will show up as we planned it last minute, but I'm hoping for a decent turn out. All are members of our NCRCC board on facebook.
I'm doing all of this on a shoestring budget (my car has been in the shop :( ) but now I can concentrate on new beadlocks with rings, new tires, and possibly a ProLine front bumper and winch.
Let me know what you think. I know she's not as glamorous as some I've seen here, but I love it just the same!
Here's hoping this finds you ALL doing well-

Well the axles made it here. Going to be converting my AX10 custom from a shafty into a MOA style. Should prove to be interesting.
Given the weight of these things we shall see what an already heavy rig winds up being after the swap.

First Impression very beefy and very heavy.

The gears are huge and heavy duty to say the least. Not cheap steel either. The shafts are pretty beefy as well.

The cast is made of a zinc alloy according to the website, aluminum would have been lighter for sure.

Anyway some pics. I had to pull the axles apart to grease and well just because LOL.

XR10 Out of Box Mods

I am currently building up a couple XR10 kits...

I am currently building up a couple XR10 kits right now and have found a couple mods that will save some gears over time.

There is some issues with bearing failure due to their small size. There is also some issue with the rear final drive gear being stripped due to some flex in the axle where the final drive gear bearings are held.

First thing to do is swap out the tiny bearings in the transmissions for bushings. There are four 5x8 non flanged bearings in the transmissions that can be swapped out to bushings. Traxxas Oilite Bushings, 5x8x2.5mm #TRA3775. There are three 5x8 flanged bearings on the motor plate. They can be swapped out for flanged 5x8 bushings.

I believe they are Associated Part #: 6863 Bushing, 3/16 x 5/16, flanged, if anyone can test fit these would appreciate it. I am getting some sent up and will update when I get fitment update.

You can also open up the holes in the motor plate very carefully and use a 5x10 mm flanged bearing in its place.

The next thing to do is called the 2 screw mod to the rear axle. It involves adding a longer bolt to an already existing location and adding another short bolt to the axle.
I found the mod on a build on rccrawler com. I will explain the mod but the pics belong to mark reel from rccrawler.com so I will not take credit for the pics. There was no way I was going to do any better justice to the mod pic wise as he did.

I will thank those for the information I got on this during my research. I did however find some of it harder to find and follow as they were mostly in build threads. That is why I decided to have a dedicated thread for it so it is easy referenced and searched.

got a little work to do to the shocks to make them a little softer but its pretty much back to its former glory.
its still got the original stock Axial Rock Lizards tires and rims that came with the scorpion, its got 4 wheel steer, Novak Rooster Crawler ESC with an Axial 55t brushed motor, all new updated drive line, and it all runs on 2 cell 2000MaH lipo battery packs, this thing used to be a crazy little crawler, just waiting for the snow to melt to test it fully :D

Well I'm hooked now on this crawling thing, I...

Well I'm hooked now on this crawling thing, I picked up a Dingo Kit, having a blast building it, my plan was to get the Gmade R1 kit but I stopped at the LHS and this thing was there so I grabbed it. I have a bunch of TRX xl 5's and 550 cans so for now we'll gear one of those way down. Just leaving it stock and wait to go nuts on the R1 later. I want to try the foil thing with the paint job using White and Black. I'll have to read up a bit more on how to do it, we got a foot of snow coming this weekend so at least I have a project to work on. Pics and a clip coming.
