    blade sr

i have read every bodies thread and about whats a good heli for me. althought i havnt never flew one. But i have only limited money to buy one since my wife said i spent to much on my scx10. And i cant spend money on helis again for awhile cuz im still building my scx10 and fixing up my blitz that got ran over. So i was thinking of the blade sr
big enough to take outside , got a fast mode switch so when i get good i can go faster with it. and alot of hop ups to make it look diff. i was just wandering if it was to big and to hard to fly for a rookie.

    Robsco what do u think

Short answer: yes, it'll be too hard for a rookie.

Collective pitch helis are quite difficult to get the hang of, and if you've never flown anything before you'll be going for parts after every flight. The SR itself is not a very good choice for a collective heli anyhow. It's got numerous reliability problems and is not particularly good overall.

Something like the Blade 120SR would be a better choice. It's WAY more durable (I've bounced mine off walls and bookcases and have yet to need a new part), also being a fixed pitch heli it'll be way easier to fly, it's still small enough you can fly it in your living room but fast enough you can take it outside as well, and it can have some tweaks done for more speed straight out of the box. Also, you'll be able to fly this for some time without getting bored of it and it'd be a good jumping up point to move to collective pitch helis.

"I believe you find life such a problem because you think there are the good people and the bad people," said the man. "You're wrong, of course. There are, always and only, the bad people, but some of them are on opposite sides."

Exactly what he said. Go with the 120SR. You'll be happier in the long run. Helicopters are not something anyone can just jump into. It takes a long time to learn and you need to take steps. There is no such thing as a heli you can learn on, and will also be exactly what you want in the future. You will buy other heli's as your progress, so this is the best place to start.

It helps that both me and RobscoRC work at local RC shops, so we get these questions often.

My hobby dealer said he will give me the 120sr for $149.00
I get all of my things there. He's always gave me good prices as long as I buy off him.
But he the only hobby shop that is close. Any other hobby shops is about 2 hours from me .
Is that a good price for 120 sr?
Cuz the I can get it in the Internet for about the same but with shipping.
If that is a good price I'm going tomorrow to get it!!!! Time to learn to fly. Lol

Wow! Thats pretty good actually. Were asking $200 for the ready to fly, I assume this is a ready to fly were talking about. If its a bind and fly then thats pretty normal. So yes its a good price. You'll find prices similar in most places but if that truly is for a "Ready to fly" model then yes, go get it!

As RobscoRc said, depends if it's the RTF or BNF.

RTF="Ready To Fly" which means you have evrything you need in the box, even AA's for the controller, you just have to charge the heli battery and you can fly.
BNF="Bind 'N Fly" which means it's missing the controller (for people that have them already) but everything else is in there, and if you have a compatible controller it can link up in a matter of seconds, and then you just have to charge and fly.

It seems most places online have the RTF for around $160, and the BNF for $130, so just make sure which one he's mentioned...

A couple of things to consider...

They're rarely trimmed perfectly when they come out of the box, so if you have someone around that can trim it for you, that can be a big help. At the shop I work at we do that for people so they're good to go, maybe get the guy at your local shop to check it out for you...

Also, I find one of the biggest problems people have when learning is over-correcting and jerking the sticks around far more than they need to. The controller that comes in the RTF has a feature that will help you out with this...

Once you have both the controller and helicopter on, if you click in the right stick like you're pushing a button, you will notice the controller LED start to blink. When it does, you're now in "low rates" mode which means pushing any stick (except the throttle) will actually only move the helicopter as if you'd pushed the stick about 70% of what it would normally move, so it is partially limiting your movements. This will reset each time you turn it off and on, but it's just a simple button click.

You'll find it'll get easier with some practice.

hey you just got one too? welcome to the club it just takes practice and time before it does what you want, I'm sure you will get it to fly great I found that before it lifts off the ground it slides all over the place (mostly to the left and forward) and when it gets in the air it becomes stable, but I'm not sure why

Ah yes, these helicopters are very light and kick up a lot of turbulence when close to the ground. You want to get it at least 2 feet off the ground and not near any objects for it to be the easiest to control. Also, don't try taking off from carpet, it does something weird to the air currents and almost tries to grab the landing gear sometimes.

I have great fun with the 120sr, once you let it outdoors it comes alive! it's so fast and it can fight the wind with ease... I just wish the battery would last longer

If you've got time, bring it in tomorrow and I'll take a poke at it and make sure it's all good.
