Hmm.. i suppose the possibility is there.. Id be worried about 2 things, how thick it needs to be to prevent buckling, and how heavy that thick board would be.. Foam is much lighter and much more durable, seems like a no brainer to me. If your curious about building your own plane go to a hardware store and pick up a sheet of 4 inch blue insulating foam, and then you can either buy or build a carving bow to form the foam. Thats the cheapest way to build your own. We used this method to build Gremlin combat planes when I was a kid, foam wings carved using a wing template and square PVC pipe for the fuse!

I have build a paper plane once, a small one..(not folded) it was supposed to have controls and everything but I never got arround finishing it.. I think I still have it in the basement, I'll post a pic when I find it..
I build it from a plan I found on the internet..

Not the best picture, but here it is. made out of standard size paper, somewhere under the tape up front is a small motor. And i had some weight in the cockpit to simulate the weight of the receiver and battery, so the cg was right, just to have a test glide and it worked. now after being in my basement for some time il looks like cr@p , but if a paper plane can work, I guess a cardboard plane should wordk too, all depends on how you build it..
