Trazh's Axial Wraith/Exo IFS Trophy Truck Build

In the process of collecting parts haven't got much put together yet but here is one pic for some progress. This is going to be a trophy truck build with a lot of scale appeal, speed built in, and a lot of travel

Here is a parts list of upgrades and what I am using for the build

    Electronics

    -ESC
    -Futaba 2.4 RX
-Castle Creations 4 Pole 4600kv Brushless Motor
    -Hi Tech 645 Servo
    -8ch light system

    Parts

    -Exo chassis
    -Exo cage
    -Exo Steering linkage
    -Exo front diff
    -Exo front suspension arms
    -Exo steering hubs
    -Exo c hubs
    -Wraith Aluminum Front Shocks
    -Wraith Skid Transmission Plate
    -Wraith rear axle
    -Wraith upper links
-Integy Red Aluminum straight axle adapters

I won't go with a hardbody design on this, and I am keeping down on the weight unlike my wraith build! I have always wanted a more scale trophy truck and waiting for a company to release one seems like it will never happen. The build is one of the best parts of this hobby so guess I will make this myself.

Trazh's Axial Wraith/Exo IFS Trophy Truck Build

Been busy with real life but got some time to build tonight. I haven't attached the two parts together yet or cut the exo chassis either. Waiting on the front cvd's and a rear upper link mount. Got another list of parts on the way. Here are some picks of what I finished tonight.

Thanks for the kuddos guys. I am being sidetracked from this build with my SC8.2e build right now but I will get back to this. Right now the mountains are filled with snow and snowboarding calls my name away from the time I could be building. But hey at least I am enjoying my time either way I go.

Finally got some work in on the cage tonight. Chopped it up but not attached yet. I will be drilling a hole in the center of each tube to insert a pin and then have that with an outer aluminum tube, all sandwiched together with some jb weld. Need it to be nice and strong as this is to be a faster vehicle.

It's been a while since I have worked on this build but I busted it off the shelf tonight. I still have the Wraith/Exo cage and need to do work on it but I had enough parts to put this together also. I havent seen anything out there for a solid rear axle exo and really like the idea. Here are some pics and tell me what you think

They are the 90mm ones. I had 100mm shocks on at the beginning of the build but they didn't compress properly. These are also on the rpm front arms.

Ah okay. I will be putting on the rpm arms on mine here shortly. Thanks for the info. One more question. What are you using for the window netting and where did you get it?

The window nets are Losi scb parts. Search them out on eBay. A couple zip ties and they look great. I use them on several of my builds.

I am going to change the rear shocks and attach the lower shock to the lower arms. Still have a lot of tweaking to do this being a custom build and all there is plenty more tweaking in the rest of the build also. I may need to shorten the links in the rear also as of right now the wheel base is longer than any sct body will accommodate. I may just chop the body though and leave the back half all cage.

Have been away for a while but am focusing on this build now. Here are some photos of the updates.

I am posting some detailed pics of the placement of the transmission skid plate on the exo chassis. I have seen this with IFS Wraith mods but none of the pics were clear enough to show proper placement for installation or details in how it was attached

In the pic with the transmission plate and the hole in the chassis it is lined up perfectly when looking at it from directly above

I replaced quite a few parts in the front end for extra strength and less slop

These are GPM knuckles and hubs. I found that the 96mm Axial Universal CVDs are too short for these to be used but GPM also makes universals that are longer and will fit so I ordered those. It seems that all the aluminum knuckles are all manufactured around the version one design of the Exo. Would have been nice to know this before I ordered the Axial ones. Oh well they will be posted up on eBay. Once I get the GPM Universals the front end should be complete.

I had an HPI Mini SCT body waiting for a future vehicle but decided to toss it on here. I know it does not match the wheelbase but I think it looks pretty cool. I don't know if this will be a final body but will do for inspiration as of right now

I would like to see how to get more travel out of the front also, granted this is a buggy but I want some crazy travel in the front just like I do in the back!

Body looks pretty cool. I just recently took my old sc10 body and cut it up to fit my exo. There's a few pics in my thread.

As far as travel up front there's a couple guys over on RCshortcourse.com that did it. Ones DaveC and the other is yikes.

I still have a super shafty top shaft coming for the transmission and am installing a Robinson Racing 54t 32p Slipper Spur gear with a Robinson racing 14t 32p pinion. Once that gets in I will be installing a BEC for the steering servo then it is on to focus on the body. The light is at the end of the tunnel!

I think I found the right body. Its a Pro-Line Ford Raptor Flow Body. Trimmed it down and made it work great. My original thoughts were to run it without rear fenders and leave the cage fully exposed but I think this works better. I have drivers and nerf bars on the way. The super shafty is installed and just waiting on the new 54t Robinson Gear. I looked at several forums for ideas on the short course pic threads. Found only a few that stood out. I am an artist and love painting sct bodys. I may leave this on here and have a look at it for a while until I come up with something cool. I have a velcro idea so I don't have to use pins in the body. I am also playing with the front shocks to get more of a throphy truck stance. Let me know what you all think of the body choice.

I added some longer lower shock links that came with the shocks. (Found them in the parts box). I still have my eye on the front shocks for the Associated sc10 4x4 with rear shafts. I am gonna go with it for right now. I am trying to find a different front bumper now to complete the look. Preferably with a bar and lights.

Ah ok. I have been thinking about the Sc10 ones also like you mentioned. I posted about a bumper in your other thread.

Man, that is an awesome build. Can't wait to see what paint scheme you come up with for the Raptor. That's the most scale looking SC truck that i have seen. Belongs in the baja 1000.

Here is a past build of mine that I did a Traxxas Slash 2wd STRC LCG Conversion. I really liked the idea of this body but there were some things I would have changed. I may go with this overall idea but perfect the design at the same time. I dunno maybe it was the choice of the body? As always I use Neversummer as the sponsor of the truck as I am a snowboarder and only ride their boards!

Thanks guys!!! I have been tweeking some things and have come along on the body portion. I added some drivers that are made for the HPI mini trophy. I had to trim in the center to fit the transmission. I am still working on the battery location. I trimmed up the front fenders more for better tire clearance. The front bumper issue of trying to find a more sct bumper still goes on but I modded the current front bumper and think this works pretty well for now. I really am looking to get a front light bar mounted. There has also been a metal plate installed under the radiator in the back. I still need to add the BEC for the steering and possibly a better servo. I currently have a HiTec HS645MG installed for testing reasons. I also got the correct slipper clutch from Robinson Racing. I used the one made for the Traxxas 2wd Slash. This vehicle is currently geared at 56/14 32p. I will test it out with that gearing and go from there.

Coming along nicely. Like the driver and passenger. Any luck on a front bumper?

i run a 12/54 traxxas combo in my mud truck. its plenty fast with an scx gear'd trans. i bored out the motor plate at one point to run a 22t pinion, but it was too fast and kept blowing tires outta the bead lock.
    awsome build by the way!
