Gonna build my first Land Rover D90 hard body...with mostly TopCad products from asiatees.com

starting with the frame rails. Stock SCX10 frame rails I got from Terry (aka 4mods)...then painted them Silver.

all the TopCad parts are on and its a roller. along with building the transmission, the next fun step is to figure out a body mounting system.

the body mount I did for mine I put a pice of 1/2" angle on the frame in the rear with 2 holes drilled in it and used the extra screw on body post brackets that come with a scx10 and and screwed them on through the tail light holes then pin it on from underneath .

And for the front I cut the top off the front posts and drilled them and used screws.

That's how I did mine and it works great

Got a few more part today for the Project TopCad including the TopCad 80118s aluminum winch.

I must say this is one good looking winch. finally a great alternative to the RC4WD and 3Racing winches we all know too well. don't get me wrong, RC4WD and 3Racing both make great winches, its just nice to have another option to make your scaler different from others on the trail. Without powering it up, the only downside I can see is its only controlled via a 3-way toggle switch and i don't see a RX plug for a 3rd channel receiver/radio.

as i said, i have not tested the power of this winch....but if you going for power...then you need a HeyOK servo winch...enough said!

TopCad 22117 Heavy Duty Gear Set for the SCX10 Transmission
    [IMG]
all steel...including the spir, you can tell by the weight!

TopCad 80215 Side Rocker Step for the D90 hard body.
These little guys looks awesome and feel great. all aluminum and a perfect fit. it might be awhile before i get to mount them as i am waiting for the D90 bumpers to get back in stock before mounting the body

The gears will allow me to build the transmission and move forward with this build...slowly but surely

Finished building the transmission with the TopCad steel gears
    [IMG]

closed up and motor plate mounted.

TopCad steel spir gear installed. topped it of with a red 4mm TopCad aluminum nut (56399r).

    TopCad steel drive shafts mounted.

I used HPI part #86094 for the driveshafts. M4x2.5x12mm cut down to 8mm because the TopCad drive shafts only allow for a set screw, not a pin, while the TopCad transmission output shaft is drilled for a pin along with the output shaft on the TopCad axles.

Great News for anyone considering purchasing this winch.

even though it does not come with a controller to allow connection to a 3rd channel, you can use another winch controller from a different brand.

To test this I unplugged the winch from another SCX10 (Blackened) i have and simply plugged this winch in...and it worked via the radio's 3rd channel (DX3C).

the winch is no louder than other available winches and the cable feels like its plastic coated. plus the winch line it thicker then the cable on the RC4WD winch and the thicker cable does not pigtail as much as the RC4WD cable.

Man this rig looks ace!! I was just wondering, how long is the winch? I would put one on mine but I think it will be too long with the wire on the end.

The rig looks sweet though, keep up the good work.

the lenght of the winch from where the wire goes in to the other end of the winch is 2" + 0.375" (3/8) for the flange that stick out (as seen in photo) = 2.375" (2 3/8). from the back of the winch to the front of the winch rollers is 1.25" (1 1/4). the winch is 0.75" (3/4) high.

with the wire bent at 90 degrees, you can add 0.1875" (3/16) to the overall length for a total of 2.1875" (2 3/16) (or 2.5625" (2 9/16))
