i just acquired a nitro vee a couple weeks ago in a trade deal needs some work has some cracks from storage and a weird spot on the hull where the plastic seems to have melted besides that the boat was bough in 2000 ran a handful of times had a few upgraded parts like the prop adapter and a better water pickup put on and then dropped into storage. i know they were never great boats without modification but im a sucker for not having to charge batteries just for a 5-8 min run. the impulse 26 in that last picture is my baby. cnc prop from OSE, 120amp turnigy esc, 3900kv 3650 motor, runs on 3s with duel 2200 packs to evenly distributed weight. its a lightning bolt of a deep vee. this nitro vee is going to be my new build from crack repair and body work to maybe eventually a little hot ridding.

started working on the cracks in the hull on monday took me a min to find the pictures i took. so far just filling the cracks to make it water ready want to get it running and broken in before i just off the deep end with body work this weird melted spot in the hull is my biggest problem. i didnt get a picture but i cleaned it up and started building up with area with epoxy by dabbing with a brush to bridge the gaps with strands of epoxy. my next step will be to figure out what i will fill the built up areas with. this sunday i will be taking to the water so hopefully i found every crack

The dual exhaust setup is really cool. Maybe you can use some foam to fix the missing material, it's light and will be easy to form.

i did consider building it up with foam but its really not deep enough to be worth it. probably going to build it up with epoxy and use a body filler to get it smooth enough and ready for paint. im considering making some metal tips for the exhaust to dress it up a bit.

currently sitting here bored at work thinking about paint colors for this thing. the factory white with the striping decals its a little too 1992 for me. i figure on going bright maybe a yellow or an orange. i want to nail down how im going to paint it before i get that far because for me color scheme is the worst part.

well i got it running fine and on the water on sunday. now my only problem is it takes on water. i did find that the water inlet was leaking because of an old hose that the end was wrecked. but it is still taking on water a little im sure through some old cracks that need re sealed. besides that though it runs good after it has time to warm up. running the 30% aquacraft grimracer fuel in it for now. by the end of the day way after this video it was running like a champ. please excuse the bad video i was alone one handing it lol

once i go though and get the leaks fixed i plan on getting the lager exhaust tips traxxas offers for that muffler. opens it up and gives much better air flow.

You can add micro balloons to your epoxy, make it thick like whipped cream and it makes it easier to sand. It works best with a thin viscosity epoxy like a laminating epoxy.

Got some more epoxy work done today and just now noticed I broke the u-joint on the outdrive at some point. At least I'm making progress even if my cats try to stop me. The old yellow/brown epoxy is from the previous owner so I cleaned it up a bit and just layered some fresh new epoxy over it. Unfortunately I have to leave in the screws from the old water pickup mount because the old backing plate needed to stay in for support. Once it's cured enough to sand im going to knock it down and shape it up till it is presentable enough to paint. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

did manage to do a little more epoxy work yesterday. mostly just some shaping and smoothing. lucky for me most of the work doesnt have to be pretty because it sits below the water line when not on plane. pretty much decided on the color scheme orange with metallic blue accents. now i just need to find the paint i want to use.

if i really pushed and used every second of my free time i could lay paint on it this weekend. but id say a few more weeks. i have a boat meet up this sunday and i just want it water tight by then not necessarily pretty. want to finish up the break in time so i can get it tuned reliably and able to go to wide open throttle.

was considering going to 2.4ghz and ditching the 27mhz but last night did a test run and im just not getting enough servo throw out of the 2.4 so im gonna have to look into that. at least im the only one around me still running 27mhz.
