I have recently delved into upgrading my vaterra ascender rtr. I don't crawl much because there is no rc community around me. I primarily play in mud with it. Right now I have batt relocate, fenders, splashguards, hd driveshafts, and Chinese servo. I have recently rounded off the Trans output shaft so that's on the way and I've ordered a rc4wd 27t and a 16t pinion for a lil extra speed. All of my shopping is done through Amazon so I can't get any gcm parts. Anything j should do to this truck to make it more capable?

Download an app called Tapatalk. It's free. Use it to browse, post, and upload photos to forums.

The Trans is out while we wait on a shaft set and motor because this one sounds like s jet engine. Any fixes for that?

Try cleaning/re-grease it. I have noticed similar issue with driveshafts on my SCX. Well, it were driveshafts in the end, while I suspected gears in axles. After opening the axles and applying additional grease (with obvious dust and filth cleaning) and squeaking noises not vanishing I found that shaft joints made said noise. Quick disassemble, cleaning and graphite "greasing" solved that.

You say you do mudding with your truck - maybe your trans leaks in some mud and your gears and bearings require some cleaning.

I have the motor disconnected from everything. I've got a new one on the way and the crappy factory solder broke off so it'll be a while if I do decide to fix and use this motor.

It's a 27t rc4wd pre soldered motor. I also ordered a 16t traxxas pinion in case I want a little extra speed and the jump from 35t to 27t isn't enough. I heard 27t is the sweet spot between speed and torque.

Is that the same gear ratio? And what is the advantage of helical gears?

    Advantages of helical gears:
    • Silent operation: In a helical gear train, the teeth engage a little at a time rather than the entire face at once. This causes less noisy power transfer in case of helical gears.
    • Non-parallel shaft: Helical gears can be used for transferring power between non parallel shafts. Though you have to compromise on efficiency in this case.
    • Strength: For same tooth size (module) and equivalent width, helical gears can handle more load than spur gears because the helical gear tooth is effectively larger since it is diagonally positioned.
    • At any given time their load is distributed over several teeth, resulting in less wear.
    Disadvantages:
    • An obvious disadvantage of the helical gears is a resultant thrust along the axis of the gear, which needs to be accommodated by appropriate thrust bearings, and a greater degree of sliding friction between the meshing teeth, often addressed with additives in the lubricant. Thus we can say that helical gears cause losses due to the unique geometry along the axis of the helical gear’s shaft.
    • Efficiency of helical gear is less because helical gear trains have sliding contacts between the teeth which in turns produce axial thrust of gear shafts and generate more heat. So, more power loss and less efficiency.
Quick sum up of what I found.

    Got some goodies today.
16t 48p pinion to replace the stock 14t

New hex wrenches. Old ones were round.
The shaft set to repair tranny.
Still have to wait in 27t motor to Come in. Tracking says around the 12th.

Not sure what kind of screws you have to deal with. I'm glad mine aren't that bad.

Lol. It was cheaper than the 3 screwdriver set and it has a holder. Idek what a hex that boy would be on.

Reassembled tranny packed full of high temp wheel bearing grease. Now just to wait on the motor. Maybe I'll work some on my cousins ruckus and its steering.

This set was cheaper than just the three sizes an rc uses.
