I have just got my first drift rc, it comes with a 7.2v 2000mAh battery. It takes 8-10 hours on its very first charge but it doesn't say how long after. Anybody have an answer? Thanks

Welcome to the forums!

It really depends on your charger.
If you are using a wall charger that came with your rc it will probably take 6 to 8 hours or more to charge it each time.

There is an amp hour rating on the charger. What is it?

Divide this number into 3300. That will be your approximate charge time. Will be a bit longer because of losses.

Most Wall chargers that come with RTR's are Rated at 250ma or if your really lucky...500ma...

You will see this one is rated at 300ma..
So you take the 2000mah rated of your battery and divide it by the 300ma of the charger.

2000/300 = 6.6..
So we can safely say that a 2000mah battery will be charged in approx 6 hours and 30minutes.

For a 3300mah battery it will take around 10 hours to do the same job..

Upgrading to an after market like an Imax AC-B6 will bring the charge times down to an hour for a 2000mah..

Wow! That right there made joining this forum totally worth it.

Running a stock E10 RTR, and wasn't sure on charging time. I have so far just been plugging it in at night, and then unplugging it first thing in the morning.
Knowing the charge time is a huge help.

Thanks!

Most aftermarket 12V Smart chargers will charge up to 5amp for a NIMH.. 5amp = 5000ma..
So You can safely charge most NIMH at a 1c rating which roughly works out at 1amp per 1000mah..
So if you charged a 2000mah battery at 1c rating of 2amp it = 1 hour..

So 2000mah/2000ma = 1.
Same with a 3300mah battery.
At 1c rating its 3.3amp so 3300mah/3300ma = 1.

This is why I don't recommend people going over 5000mah on a NIMH battery as most chargers have a max charge rate of 5amps.
So this means the Maximum battery it can safely charge without timing out or hitting peak is 5000mah..

Lets do some math. Asians are good at math. :D
Oh wait Magnat007 said like most of it.

Example your battery is 2000mah and your wall charger is 150ma it would take 13.333hours to charge it to maximum because 2000/150=13.333hrs
As battery life decrease as you use it more, the mah will decrease and charge time will decrease :(

1000ma equals to 1amps.
1amps equals to 1000ma.

Formula to calculate charge times : Mah divided by ma equals the hours of charging time.

Either you can figure out the above or go to this website to calculate the time for battery charge

It sounds like it has a bad cell. The charge voltage isn't exceeding the peak detection of the charger. It just assumes the pack is still not charged.

well you guys don't need my help ... the questions have been well answered and explained.
a Imax b6 is a cheap charger that will decrease charge time greatly .... and will also charge lipo battery's for future rc's

5000mah/.5amps = 10 hours...
This is more than likely above the chargers capacity to charge.

That is actually a good point. A second attempt should yield a charged battery if it is a timeout during the initial attempt.

I have a question do you know how much time will 7.2v 2000mAh last for?
