its really easy to do, i dont know if its any better than the controls that come with the winch, but most of us got weak or cheap servos laying around, why not use em for something.

start by taking the screws out the bottom of the servo,
    [IMG]
    pull the gears out

now gently pull the board/motor/and POT out. depending on the servo, the pot may have screws holding it into the case, most are some kind of glue.

    desolder the servo motor leads
now solder the winch leads where the motor was soldered on at.

plug the rx plug into your rx and power the radio and truck up.

turn on the 3rd channel on your radio and center the pot on the board/winch control.the winch may take off as soon as you power up the truck, so be ready to turn the pot and try to find center.

once you got it centered, glue the pot to the little case its enclosed in and let the glue dry

wish i had better pics, i didnt take any when i made mine. i used a cheap futaba s3003 servo for mine

Don't have a picture at the moment, but if you dismantle the servo, you should find a little knob probably with a slot in the top. This is the pot or potentiometer

Done this a bunch of times with old servos. Works awesome. All the 3raceing winches use cheap servo boards as controllers.

    Good wright up man.

    Good stuff

Oh okay I took a few apart after posting and I figured. But I pulled the wires out accidentally. I'm gonna try it again tomorrow. I have one more servo left. Lol

I assume you have to have a 3 position switch to use it right?

yea. you need a 3 pos switch. ive done it. it works pretty well. a little weak tho. id imagine that a higher power servo would change that.
