I have a Castle Creations Sv2 4600kv brushless system in my 2wd slash. I bash my slash. I don't race. I use Gens Ace 2s 5000mah 40c lipos, Gens Ace 3s 3300mah 20c lipo, Sky Lipo 2s 4400mah 30c lipo, and Sky Lipo 3s 5000mah 20c lipo. When I had the XL-5 and Titan 12t brushed motor in my 2wd Slash. I used Gens Ace 2s 5000mah 40c lipos and Sky Lipo 2s 4400mah 30c lipo. Gens Ace, Sky Lipo, and SMC Lipos are want my friends and I use.

I currently run a very odd combo, stock 12t motor, Castle MMP (Mamba Max Pro) and a 3s 5000mah... i will be changing out the motor soon tho..
I would say a 2s of some sort, maybe a 5000mah, or you could get a 7600mah and drive for the rest of mankind

With the stock XL5 esc and Titan 12T it was about 20-30 minutes. If youre in it for the longer run times get on Towerhobbies.com and take a look and the Onyx 2s 35C 8000mah! Im not sure how long itll take your runtime in a brushed setup like that but I know in my Wraith with brushless motor/esc it was over an hour!

I checked Onyx 2s 35C 8000mah but the price was a bit high at my price range at the moment.

If your looking for a good lipo 2s 5000mah 40c hardcase. Then check out SMC Racing. Here is a link to the 2s 5000mah 40c hardcase lipo with traxxas connector for $29.95. My friends and I use SMC Lipos and they are great. Great price.
    Factory Spec 7.4V 5000mAh 40C Traxxas

If you have the XL5 than if i remember rite a 2s lipo would be what you can run vs. nimah or nicad. I know a 2s has less voltage than the powerpac or what ever they call it but it def has more punch and much longer run time. lipo all the way just dont go 3s on a xl5 (dont want to burn your motor/esc out)

    LIPO Safety

One thing that is critical with lipos, make sure you program the esc to turn on the low voltage cut off on otherwise wou will destroy the lipo and use a balance charger such as Imax 6 to balance/charge your lipo. If you use a nihah or nicad charger you will destroy your lipo.Dont forget the lipo safe bag(fire proof)
