So I found one of these Dingo clones for a really good price and decided to pick one up after reading a lot of reviews and watching plenty of videos. It seems like a very capable truck with some potential. The first thought in my mind was "what can I replace with aluminum parts"? I can convert the chassis to aluminum for $45. There are aluminum axle housings and complete assemblies for under $50 for the assembly. You can also get an aluminum transmission housing. Other than those, there aren't any other metal upgrades as of yet. Replacing the plastic links is easy enough with DIY methods. Some features I like are the locked diffs, the two speed transmission (even though it does not come with a servo for it), the chassis mounted steering servo, bead lock rims out of the box, and the price. Since I plan on putting a better servo in for steering anyway, I can move the original back to the transmission for shifting. I am not sure if I will replace the suspension at first, I will have to see how it works. I am eager to see if SCX10 bumpers will work on the P402 because the chassis design is very similar. And if anything does break, replacement parts are not too expensive. I will probably wait until I get all of the parts in before I continue the build thread though.

Interested to see how you go with this. I'm looking at one if these as a cheap source of axles for one of my sons projects.

It's the ole Dad can you convert my Tonka dump truck to RC. He doesn't have a trail rig at the moment, so I'm building this for him. Probably 1.9 military type tyres, a little bit of suspension and an operating dumper.

And a whole donor rig for under a hundred can't be beat for this project :)

I am interested in seeing what can be taken from these clones and what they can be turned into..

I mean down under they still cost a fair bit.. with the cheapest price I have found being like $180 + $90 postage.. which is still alot of money for a clone..

I am going to be watching this thread closesly and look forward to seeing your Pics !

From a cost savings it's a good thing, certainly for comparison to the dingo it's still 50% of the price! Just wasn't as cheap as I had first figured it for me :) still very interested in this tho.

I am very interested in seeing how this turns out too. Will this finally be the budget truck everyone always asks about? I would like to keep my cost below $200 for this project which leaves me about $39 to do something about suspension links and steering linkage.

Hey Lout, just want to make sure you know that if you do go this route for the axles, they are a 4mm output shaft instead of the common 5mm.

So I have been brainstorming the direction I want to go with this truck and I came across this picture on google. I do believe I found my inspiration.

So the truck should be delivered by Tuesday. I already have some of the parts in but still waiting on others. I am eager to get a look at the truck and look at the possibilities.
