I had my son out the other day and he did so well driving my rock crawler in the field.
That i decided it might be time to build him his own truck.
I knew that RC_Psycho had an old 2wd slash kicking around that was never gonna get fixed up because he prefers his torment.
I told him i was looking into building a truck for my son. He sold me his old slash for $30. it needed everything but a servo. lol
but for $30 ill take it.
I managed to build it up in one evening and came out with this little beast.

I had to straiten out a rear shock. make a new servo horn and linkage. install a receiver, esc,and motor, and mash together a driveshaft from parts i had.

its very underpowered, i had it in training mode and geared down but i dont think the esc is up to the task of moving that truck.
its a traxxas xl 2.5 esc with a titan 12t motor. out of a 1/16 scale revo. it seems to be getting slower. like to the point i had to take it out of training mode. because it could barely move. it may just be the brushes are dirty tho.

I made a video of his first time driving it. I think he did pretty darn good.

and here is a bonus vid of him driving my crawler.

You could swap the tx components in to a toy grade controller designed for smaller hands. Have a few if your interested...

got a few more vids to add to this thread :)

since this last video ive locked the rear diff and stiffened the suspension all around. also made a skid plate for the underside so it does not get caught on everything.

and it spends its days looking like this.
