Hey everyone I'm new to this forum and I would like some help choosing a new basher. I currently have a hpi bullet Mt flux that needs a few things to be ready to run again, and parts are just a pain in the arse so I just want to start fresh completely.

I want to go full on basher and I've been reading tons and tons of things about the traxxas slash 4x4. But I've also read alot of people saying it's expensive. Also I wasn't sure if the platinum version was worth it? Is it just the radio and battery that makes the kit different or are certain parts better on it?.

My budget I'd say is 600 dollars and i want to order off of towerhobbies because of the easy pay option. I will be bashing very little stuff just like little grass cement and jumps so nothing huge. If you guys could help me decide id really appreciate it.

The traxxas slash is an excellent basher and while yes the ultimate is a cool rig you can get a vxl 4x4 slash for about $450 and upgrade as needed. And upgrading a rig is part of the fun IMO . after all I have 2 slashes. One I built from just spare parts.

Just ordered the platinum ARR for I think 518 with shipping or something. it has the upgraded alloy parts the regular rtr 4x4 slash has. I plan on just putting a decent radio and receiver in it when It comes in and I can stop by my local hobby shop. Any suggestions for those? And can I buy a water proof /resistant reciever or is it all about its encloser for that?

The traxxas tqi receiver that comes with the truck is good. If you want to upgrade go spectrum. Or futaba.

I was thinking a futaba 3 channel radio for like 140 dollars but I don't really see a benefit to a fancy settings controller since I'm only going to be bashing

I have the spectrum dx2e for the slash I built and it works very well and was only $60.

I don't know personally about that radio as I've never used it. I have used the spectrum and the futaba and they are both very good radio's.

Okay I'll order them together then. I'll most likely make this a monster truck build. 17mm hex conversion with big tires, should be fun.

Can anyone suggest a battery and charger combo good for bashing?

I'm using a Venom PRO3 charger and a Venom 50c 5k 3s hard case battery on my mega truck. I have and continue to beat the hell out of my truck and power is not a problem.

I use a racers edge 4 button charger with racers edge 5200mah 25c 2s and a venom 5k 3s for my rustler that can use it. My others are using castle sidewinder 3 sets at 6900kv and 4600kv neither of which are rated for 3s.

I found out my Castle 5700kv max at 3s is really an overstatement. Had a bearing inside the motor explode last weekend. It was pretty cool lol

You can build a REALLY good slash for under $600... But you cant do it on towerhobbies, well not all of it... What I did was bought a custom slash roller on ebay (linked below) and then bought the leftover parts to finish the truck. It REALLY runs good.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Traxxas-Sla...740148?hash=item3ac9712af4:g:VBkAAOSw37tWA8ZU

What you need to buy is:
-esc/motor combo (recommend castle sidewinder 3 sct)
    -transmitter/receiver (2-3 channel)
-Body (you can use a traxxas body or a custom body)
    -Wheels/tires (recommend traxxas or proline)
    -Battery (recommend a 2s lipo)
-And it needs a 32pitch pinoin gear

Thats all it needs! It pretty simple to build, and its already very upgraded!

I personally dont care for SCTs mainly due to all the crap kicked into the body and funnled into the chasis.

Went 1/8 buggy. Better deals than 4x4 SCTs and alot tougher. Arrma has some great values right now especially with tower cupons.

Yeah, I like 1/8 buggies more too. i have an old Losi 810 that has an electric conversion and a ton of custom parts and mods. Much stronger than other rc's... Yet a little more pricey

My go to basher is my Slayer Pro 4x4. Just can't break the thing.

Love to bash my 2wd slash but it's more fun on the track.

I'll let you know how the Losi 8ight-T .28 truggy is when it comes in next week.
