So i am new to the RC World started by watching vidio of the Big Dirty on You Tube. I want to biuld a "truck " that has the ability to "free wheel" . ( Back round info )My Son has a cognitive impairment he loves to RC but some times he gets to pumped up and wants to push the cars himself. What i want is somthig that will disconnect drive train/Let the wheels freewheel. Just to save the gears. If i have to replace spur gears and diff every day i will just to keep the smile on my guys face but if I can biuld him a custom i would sell my real car to do it for him . Thanks in advance for any help

Welcome to the forums! I don't think anything like that exists on the market. What scale are you looking for and what category of truck? Monster truck, crawler...? I think the easiest thing would be to just remove the pinion gear, it's held on with one grub screw.

maybe have a servo move the motor away from the spur, or use a two speed trans with one gear removed

Thanks that servo idea sounds like a good idea. If i put motor on a slider /cart and just pull it back. Getting the gear mesh right sounds like a fun challenge

Two speed trans with a gear removed and a spacer placed inside would be the easiest and most cost effective way...

I agree, a two speed trans with one gear removed would be perfect
