I started with an axial scx10 deadbolt, they are relatively inexpensive and quite strong.

Don't forget the Vaterra Ascender, Axial Wraith, GMade has the Sawback and the Komodo. RC4WD has the TF2 in several different models, also the Gelande D90 and D110... The Axial SCX10 comes in a bunch of different models as well.

YIKES....Too many to choose from. DJ Med did that video of the TF2 and it looked pretty darn scale, lots of metal. I like it alot. Is your go to ride the scx10 Mark?

That's a 1.9 Wraith (conversion). I also run a Vaterra Ascender (Bronco), and I have an SCX10 build on the go...which was going to be a 'Mog, but since I'm getting a bunch of free stuff from ProLine, that just changed, and will be moving ahead much sooner...

I have 2 SCX10s (one started life as a Honcho RTR and I've modded the poo out of it, the other is a custom build I won off a raffle), an Ascender Blazer that I built for my dad (even though I have more wheel time than he does on it.. lol), a Wraith, and a Losi Nightcrawler. That one's not really a scaler, though I've seen some other ppl build them to look fairly scale. I think I'd like to build a TF2 next. I've never touched an SCX 2 so I dont know what to say about them other than ppl seem to love em.

The "Honcho" is my favorite, and the Ascender is right on its heels. I guess the Wraith would be next, then the Nightcrawler. The worm gears in it are picky and you can ONLY crawl super slowly. The raffle SCX has potential but I need to play with the suspension on it.. I dont like the setup on it right now.

I tend to break the C Hubs on my Wraith more than anything, though amazingly I still run the original plastic C Hubs on my "Honcho" truck. The Ascender has lots of metal goodies, it used to strip diff gears but they've redesigned and updated this.

Not to be a jerk, but there are probably literally hundreds of threads covering the differences between the platforms. The Axials and the Ascender seem to be more basher-type crawl friendly. The RC4WD trucks tend to look and handle more realistic. They'll make you pick your lines better and be a better driver, especially if you run the 1.55s. Keep in mind: These are generalizations and there will be exceptions. I dont really know much about the GMade rigs, but the Sawback seems to compare more with the RC4WD style.

I have the Vaterra Ascender (short wheelbase Bronco version) and love it. I have my Wraith, which has been reborn as super capable trail rig in 1.9 form, and am in the process of another SCX10 build. I gave my original Honcho to my buddy for his birthday, rebuilt it two years ago, and it's now also going through another rebuild, turning into something different yet again. We've never been "bashers" , but are hardcore scale drivers. Love the SCX10 platform, it's durable as hell, and in all the years we've been running them, we've never had a failure on the trail. Part of that is upkeep and maintenance. I am pretty OCD in that area... But we drive our rigs like we would drive a 1:1 truck on a full size trail. I have about 25-30 hours on the Wraith (4 or 5 trail runs) since I finished the build, and there is barely a scratch on the metal axles... We don't baby them, but we don't bash them. We have a lad that comes out with us who has an SCX10 II, and loves it. Great handling truck, climbs like a sticky monkey, and has almost as much steering as the Ascender... As to the TF2, I'll build one sooner or later. Would like to try running a leaf spring suspended rig on our trails...
