Tonight I finished making a new mount. I screwed up my original mount I used for the scale winch because I cut the slot for the servo too close to one side. It didn't leave any room to mount the bumper screws.

Because of design decisions, I was adamant on mounting it in the bumper in the front, I had to be careful when spooling to make sure the winch line ended up in the middle of the spool. My intent was to mount the servo with the splines facing down vs up. I though it looked better but because the centering issue, this way picked itself. It worked out in the end with the standoffs I "borrowed" from work.

The line will rub on the plate but I made sure it was smooth with no burrs. I rounded the aluminum in the location it enters/exits the servo.

I also soldered connectors on BR-XL ESC and put the electronics back together. I'm going to have to extend the wire an inch I used on the winch as I had planned to have it facing down. Now the wires are just reach but there is no slack.

Little surprise coming Monday for this project... I have to say after this unintended upgrade, I don't think there is much more I can do other than breakages.

Little hint in the quote above...

Monday came early with two deliveries showing up Saturday. I mentioned these as an alternative in another post and liked them so much, I bought a set. I was going to replace my SCX stock axle cases as I am not happy with some of the binding I was getting. No amount of shimming fixed them.

These are just released from Ottsix, the makers of Voodo U4 Tires and feature a raised 18 degree pinion and diamond axle look. I am staying with plastic for increased slide over rocky terrain.

Unfortunately, there isn't a lower panhard mount that has been released for them yet. I modified the axle to fit a Vanquish mount. I also slightly modified the mount itself to create a small relief to fit the hole.

I had to shim the crap out of these. I consider this a good thing because in the end, they are like butter with almost 0 deflection.

The rear using the Ottsix truss. Everything from a stock Axial axle fits these EXCEPT, the front and rear truss. You have to use their truss as the shape is slightly different. I am not using a front truss as the panhard incorporates the link mount.

Here is good shot of the relocated pinion, moved up and out of the way.

    Assembled shots....

I have $50 in both cases and rear truss. If you needed the front truss that would add an extra $30 to the cost.

Hey Scott did you have to grind off much on the vanquish panhard/link mount? I'm seriously considering these housings!

Not really. I should have taken less off the housing and more off the mount.

Any idea if the beeftubes I have up front would fit inside? Aside from the obvious pinion angle change did they change the axle tube areas?

Beef tubes released a special set for these axles. I was considering selling my stock set and getting the Ottsix version.

Seems well worth it for a significant performance boost $30-40 for the housings another $20- 30 for another set of beef tubes. Pretty sure I need new Chubs & Knuckles after the years I've abused these one's.

If your still planning on stopping over, you can look them over and see if you like them.

    Update!

Since building this truck it has become my favorite by far. My Wraith seems to always sit on the shelf and I'm grabbing this truck when we go out. Something gratifying building it from scratch. The parts I put into it have evolved slightly, axles, rims, motor, speed control. I have a plan to upgrade my Light/Winch controller and software to something a bit more finished and easier to work on. The current protoboard is more fragile than I'd like.

It's been pretty reliable with only a few repairs (Mostly bends and some cage breaks). I've found it to be very capable given the weight.

That is awesome news. It's always good when something you've built works so well that you want to use it rather than have it sit on the shelf because it's not quite right.
