Dropped a big heavy steel rim on my big toe one time while wearing regular sneakers by accident, similar thing happened. Several years later it's still not 100%.

How about getting slammed against a concrete floor by a 12 bundle bale of insulation coming down from 25 feet up? Shattered the gleno-humeral joint (ball joint) in my left shoulder, left scapula, ALL the ribs on my right side ( left arm was hanging down 4" from where it should have been attached). Broken jaw, cheekbone. Missing teeth on left side as well. Badly bruised left kidney and left lung. Massive concussion from the fractured skull. They were going to amputate my left arm at the shoulder, but I ended up with a bunch of prototype metal bits instead. 18 months of rehab. Went from 212 pounds of pretty fit muscle, to a sick 122 pounds. Left bicep was smaller around than my left wrist. Have lots of pain to this day...

@Polaris425, we had similar issues on Saturday on the Nottawasaga River during our kayak trip. But these weren't fishermen. These were tourists on jet-skis. Purposely slowing down to "wake" everybody in their kayaks. Almost tipped a couple of us. My solution...slide over to the shore and grab a couple of rocks. The next little punk who tried it got one, special delivery. They left us alone after that. These are the idiots who think it is cool to rip up and down the river, in a no wake area, at 50-60 miles an hour, because they feel that since they are jet ski owners, they also own the river...they are one of the main causes of erosion issues along the river, but unfortunately, even if we do have the OPP police boat on the river, the little bastards are hard to catch...
I am only a short distance from the river, and I can hear them on the river right now, and I can tell by how they sound, that they are way over the posted speed limit.

This one in particular w/ the components used would be about $235 including shipping anywhere in the USA. The blank drives a lot of that, being that this particular blank cost $110 (my wholesale price) if I had to pay retail it would be more.

Exactly.. There are cheaper blanks out there I can use and if someone's just lookin for something cool to show off w/ their own color scheme those are fine. And they fish fine too. Nothing wrong w/ them.. But these blanks are light, and strong, and sensitive. And with that kind of quality comes a heafty price tag. And honestly, $110 for a blank is still on the cheap side, comparatively speaking. Some of the ones in my distributors list cost $300.

The way I see it, if you ask a fella to make to a custom rod, you pay what he asks, or you get what you pay for...yah?
