I have 3 year old and he loves driving my Slash 2wd. I would like to get him is own. No Walmart cheapo RC either. I want to be able to replace stuff if he breaks something.

My budget is small. Maybe $100 or so..

I stopped by my LHS and he suggested the Traxxas Latrax 1/18 scale.

    Thanks,
    OBRC

Oddball.. $100 is not a HUGE budget.. You could try craigslist and see what you can get.
The Latrax would be a good brand name RC to start with...

Redcat racing has some cheap rc. Alot of scales and options. My buddy got a
Blackout XBE PRO Buggy for a Christmas and the thing is a beast, faster than my slash when I was on 2s, hence the reason I went to 3s, had to keep up lol

I would look into the Exceed Infinitive if you like the Volcano.. the Infinitive is a just slightly larger at 1/10th scale

    Definitely look into Redcat.

I got my 7 year old a Redcat Everest 10. It was perfect for her first truck. I've now put in a 27T motor and 15-tooth pinion. Also had some Axial 2.2 RipSaw wheels/tires so I put them on. Perfect!

As she gets better at driving, I adjust the truck. Next will be aftermarket shocks and homemade links to lower it to normal trail rig height and articulation.

Last thing will probably be the transmission. It works just fine, but doesn't have a slipper clutch.

That's the thing ive found with red cat they don't seam to put slipper clutches in there cars. Otherwise they are good low budget rigs.

Yep. Not a huge deal, though. With what I've done to the truck, I could buy a slipper clutch assembly and fit it to the E10 trans and still have less in this truck which has had pretty much all the upgrades someone would put in a SCX10. I just watch the classifieds, ebay, and Facebook buy/sell pages for good used parts at a good price. Seeing how good of a rig we can have for a reasonable (to us) price is half the fun!

Watching the daughter's E10 go everywhere the wife's stock (except Super Swamper 1.9s on beadlocks) Deadbolt would last weekend was convincing enough for me.

There's also the Dromida's 1/18. And if your good at upgrading, I got my 6yr a wltoys 12428. Kind of like a rock racer. I put a 35t in it and some tweaking, it crawls very good. I'll have complete vid up soon. I got it on sale for $45 +ship. I couldn't beat that.

The only thing I would say about 1/18 rigs is that they are harder to control at speed simply due to the shorter wheelbase, lighter weight, and etc.

That being said, as soon as all of the family is equipped with a 1/10 trail rig, we're going to start on 1/16-1/18 trail rigs.

If you haven't already bought the teton have you looked at Ecx. They have a short course truck too. The torment. And the 1/18 models are right at 100$

Teton has higher clearance than SCT truck and with 1/18 scale SCT trucks are very limited in terrain

I bought a 1/18 SCT for my daughter when we first got into RC surface vehicles. MISTAKE. It's only good for dirt or blacktop/concrete. It wouldn't even run on the lawn when I used to cut it to 2 inches instead of 3.

What did you expect? I'm a newbie!

My 1/18 scale ruckus goes everywhere. Especially being 4wd. Could definitely use thicker oil but eh. It's 100$ it's flies too btw.
