my first modern hobby rc was a traxxas slash 4x4.

however, back in the late 80's early 90's. my brother and i both had a tyco turbo hopper. mine was the red 49 mhz, his was the black 27 mhz. both got run into the ground. my brothers burned out his motor or speed controller. we didn't know, it just wouldn't move forward anymore. and i managed to destroy my transmission. missing teeth, clicking. still drove. sort of. it would sit and freewheel the motor in certain points in the transmission, but if i could get it rolling and keep it rolling i could skip over the missing teeth and drive it.

i did have to give it a swift kick every now and again when it was stopped and the teeth weren't engaged.

Mine was Tamiya, I still have it, it still runs. from 1986.

I feel not having Tamiya on your list of first RC's is kinda wak, considering Tamiya is the company that made Kit models what it is today hehe.

The next was a Clodbuster I bought off a friend on mine for 40 bucks in about 1994. The same one I still own and turned into this.

My first hobby grade one was a Tamiya Blackfoot that I bought in I think 1987. I modded lots of stuff on it after my LHS had a fire and I got everything for 50% off. I drove this truck almost everyday for 2 years and I still have it today. It's missing some parts but I'm thinking about getting it out of my garage attic and rebuilding it back to somewhat original looking condition. It's what got me started. I had many cheapos before the Blackfoot but this is the one that got me started.
