Sooner or later, I'm probably going to pick up one of these ESCs and the plan is to run it on 3S with an external BEC. Before I actually run it I am going to look and see if the FET ratings are within the voltage I plan to run.

Like I stated, it's probably OK but if it fails......

Anyone have one they care to open and take a picture of the internals?

Sorry, but this is a brand new esc, and I don't know if I want to open it up as it was a free replacement from axial due to my broken one

i still have the same esc in operation to this day, in the same rig. If axial asks what happened, you say it just burnt up lol

In all honesty, I do electronics failure analysis for a living. Trust me when I tell you......they will know why it failed.

Guys, I just ran my ae-2 full out on a 7-cell nimh pack, it wasn't even warm, even tho I ran it out in the snow, it was still a stone cold 57° F (measured with a temp gun) I mean its 1cell more than they recommend running with NIMH, Could that hurt it? I mean for crying out loud the ae-3 esc looks better, is waterproof and can run on 3s. Should I maybe do like a swap? Or would it really be ok to run my esc with a 7-cell nimh? I mean is it really the bec I have to worry about?, woudln't the bec becoming hot also make the esc hot?

Oh yeah. So this really won't hurt my esc? I mean its only 1nimh cell more than they recommend. Also, the 8.4v advertised on the pack is really closer to 10.70v when charged. If the esc isn't even getting warm, do you think it won't get harmed if I run it on a 7cell nimh?

yay, I can finally run my truck and not worry, and even with newer nimh packs, I get better run time than basically inert lipos.... If it got to be like 100° f that would be a worry, but on a warm day, and doing extreme crawling that really puts a load on the esc, it was still at around 90° on a 2s.

yeah. I have a 12v pc fan that is pretty small..... Maybe like a smaller 5v fan would work as I could maybe hook it up to my bec. I don't have a separate bec tho. thanks for the help so far
