Hello fellow ADDiCTs! About a week ago I was daydreaming about a new RC build and headed to the basement to see what I had laying around. I knew I had close to a full RC in parts and sure enough, I found enough pieces to get me excited to build a custom RC. So as I started the project, I looked here on RCSparks and saw the photocontest and I made a post wondering about a build-off contest here on RCSparks. Now, I just need to clarify, this IS NOT an RCSparks build-off! It IS NOT open to all members, this is a build off between 3 members that will take place on YouTube. This thread is just for showing some videos and pictures of the build off but ALL the voting will take place on YouTube. Also, I want to make a note that IF by some miracle we happen to get a sponsor for the build-off, they are not associated with or promoted by RCSparks. Like I said, and I can't stress this enough, this build-off is hosted on YouTube and this thread is ONLY to showcase our builds and videos. The build off will be between myself and two other members, @BignBlue and @lout and we will all keep our build threads updated on here just like normal but this thread will be here to see the builds side by side (maybe not in quite as much detail as our individual build threads though). Here are links to each of our YouTube channels & build threads. Make sure to subscribe! @chetmotox 's YouTube channel- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoetOh3du_7ydgTRPvIr1gA build thread- http://www.rcsparks.com/forum/threads/off-road-mopar-muscle.40938/ @lout 's YouTube channel- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8o1tORtSbEPUYjOX1-Me8g build thread- http://www.rcsparks.com/forum/threads/1930-ford-model-a-tudor-sedan-hotrod.39671/ @BignBlue 's YouTube channel- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClUcBymNYQbJDcwbtFgF0WA build thread- http://www.rcsparks.com/forum/threa...stom-build-everest10-axles-super-scale.41051/ And here is the layout and rules for our build off. If anyone wants to copy this idea for their own "Build Off" you are more than welcome to. YouTube R/C Build Off General Description This will be a build off between 3 competitors to see who can build the most scale off road RC car. Any build entered will have to be custom, meaning that it can’t be a kit or something that is all aftermarket RC parts but instead something that required some level of custom building by the competitor. Layout of the competition 1. The competitors can take a project that was previously started (not completed) and compile a video/slideshow of the build up to the current point to bring everyone (competitors and subscribers) up to speed. This video will also give a general idea of where the build is going and the final goal of what the build is although the competitor may keep certain things a secret if they so desire. This video will also serve as the announcement for the build off on each competitors YouTube channel. The video should be posted between July 18-July 22 to start the build off. 2. Throughout the competition each builder should try to post a few videos of the build and, if possible, testing. Ideally a video every other week to once a month (totaling 2-4 videos before the final vote). Build threads can be up kept on RCSparks or any other forum as long as it follows forum rules. 3. On September 30, 2016, the build off will be completed and the builders will have a week to create their final video on which their cars will be judged. See "Final Video" portion for more details. 4. Viewers can then comment on whose rig the vote for between October 12 and October 31, 2016. Voting will be explained more in the “Rules” portion. Rules of the competition 1. This is a friendly competition so no crazy drama or negativity will be tolerated. We are here to have fun and also encourage each other to finish our RC projects to the best of our abilities and bring in more subscribers to each of our YouTube channels. 2. All videos posted will be appropriate for viewers of ALL ages which means edit out any explicit words and keep all images age appropriate. 3. If you decide to post on any forum, make sure to respect the rules of the forum. 4. Keep in contact with other the other builders. You don’t have to message them constantly but keeping in contact will help everyone know where things are at in the competition as well as helping with problems we may come across in our builds. These are custom rigs and that presents problems to overcome and having others here to help can help keep things moving along. 5. Keep the cost reasonable. If you want the ultimate scale machine you can buy it, we all know that. Capo released a Jeep that is amazing in scale and detail…but it costs $2400 and is a kit that anyone can build. This is about BUILDING an RC. We want to showcase our talents for what we can create. This isn’t to limit someone from buying the ultimate scale axle because it’s what they need, this is just to state that we want to keep things reasonable. If you wanted to win the ultimate scale build, you could buy your way to win…this isn’t what we are going for so work within reason. Budget will not affect points but it will be noted in the end. 6. If you feel up to it, give permission for the other competitors to use your pictures you post on RCSparks for their videos. I would like to create a video about once every other week and I would like to show a couple pictures of your build on my videos at the beginning or end of the video to showcase the competition. I would like to promote your RC channel and comment on the positives of your builds. This MUST be kept positive. There will be no dissing of a build. This is all for promotion and also to show that this is in fact a build off, not just an RC build that will be entered in a competition at the end. I grant you all permission to use pictures or videos from my build thread if you would like to do the same. 7. Voting on the final video. The final video will showcase each build and its attributes. Voting will be done by the viewers between the video postdate and October 31, 2016. A viewer may vote on each of the builders' YouTube channels but only once per channel. If a viewer votes multiple times per channel, all their votes will be removed. After October 31, all the votes will be tallied and the winner will be announced. Final video requirements 1. The video must be 3-5 minutes long. 2. Must showcase the RC in its entirety. 3. If completed you must show clips of it running as it was designed. 4. You must have a quick breakdown of cost. a. This has to take into account cost of materials for custom built parts, estimate of value or cost of “parts from parts bin”, etc. i. Examples: 1. Steel for frame- $.50 per foot, used 3’- Total frame cost- $1.50 2. (Used parts from parts bin are ½ original cost)Used Transmission from parts bin- Original cost- $50, current value- $25 3. Axle from Ebay- Paid $35 b. This portion maybe only a few seconds long so that the viewer may pause the video to view your list. 5. Present it in the most professional way possible because your presentation can help how your build is perceived. 6. Start your video with the “Name” of your RC so that the viewers can use that in the comments below for voting. Most of all, this is for fun. If things don’t go according to plan, we will make it work. The dates listed here are not set in stone, just for a guideline and also, to give everyone a goal to shoot for. If you are a couple weeks away from finishing, we WILL work with it to give everyone a fair shot. If you run out of funds or can’t make it even close to the deadline, you may withdraw or even enter the final video with a partially built RC as well. We all know things don’t always go perfectly and we will do our best to work with you but hopefully this will be beneficial to all of us and we can have a great time doing it. Good luck and have fun!
